ABOUT THE AUTHOR
With the phrase "Best Seller" in the title, author Lee Silber knew this book had better be good. It may be his first novel, but he has written 18 other works of non-fiction and won ten awards for literary excellence, including the Theodore S. Geisel Award. Like his main character, Lee escaped life on the mainland and moved to Hawaii where he worked a number of odd jobs (including a stint as a suntan consultant) before his brothers lured him back to California to open a chain of surf shops. Since that time, Silber has had a successful run as an author, corporate trainer, and consultant—helping creative people master the business side of the arts and teaching business people how to become more creative.

I got this book for $3.99. I thought way not it's only $3.99. After reading this book I would have paid $17 to $20 for it. Really good book. Such a suprise, I could not put it down, read it in one day, did not want to stop. You will love the main character and you will not see her as a victum but a fighter. She has so many jurks that come into her life and she sees right through them and doesn't let them play her. It is truely a good story from first page to the last. People are trying to kill her right and left and she keeps one step ahead of them till the end. You really must read this book. This will be the best money you have spent all summer.Go for it, you will be glad you did.

This started off well, but felt repeatedly let down by the poor quality of the writing. I bought the book because it was prominently listed as a best-seller by a new author, so obviously lots of people liked it. I just checked other reviews and found 95 four and five-star reviews versus 39 one to three-star reviews. Take your pick. I stand by this 2-star rating. Good story line, predictable characters and plot, poor writing.
Although I thought this was a love story it was still an outstanding book! So much suspense and depth!! Strong characters, with Kate!!
My college age daughter and I both read this on a week end camping trip. It was very suspense filled and we enjoyed "traveling to Hawaii" while sitting around our campfire. The author did a great job and I felt like Kate's best friend and cheerleader. The sad thing is, the beginning could easily be a true life story that many women helplessly face every day. This book has a great ending and was pleasant to read!!! ) I will definitely recommend this to my friends. I read a lot of it to my 9yr old daughter and her girlfriend as they sat on the edge of their lawn chairs hanging on every twist and turn! Haha!... It's content is PG 13 and definitely not 50 Shades of Gray, so if you're looking for hot and steamy, this book is not for you.
I am not a reader but wanted a book to take on my cruise. I started the book on my roadtrip to Miami and finished it by the 2nd day before ever getting on the ship. My husband then read it in two days because he could not put it down either. He is a reader and said it was a very simple, predictable storyline, however he enjoyed it.
Thoroughly enjoyed Runaway Best Seller. Having visited the island of Kauai for over fifty years I found the author's description of the island to be spot on.
This book definitely kept my attention and just hated to put it down. Definitely a winner for this first time author.
As I write this review in the late afternoon, I look back to when I finished reading this book at 101 a.m. this morning. Yes, 101 a.m. Why so early in the morning? It is because this new writer, LEE SILBER, is going to be a Best Seller. His bio says that he has written 19 other books, all educational. Great! Silber has taken the abused women and brought their abuse to light. Of course this is a work of fiction, but, and I say again, BUT, it is typical of abuse that both women and men experience. Kate Ramirez is married to a pro baseball player who plays for the San Diego Padres. Don't fear, there is not a lot of baseball in his writing, but lots of what we have found to be abuse. Follow Kate as she plans and how she has her husband arrested for her murder and dreams of a future without harm and fear. Follow her to Hawaii where she finds relief from the abuse she has suffered and meets new friends that help only to be noticed by Bob. Her step sister by marriage, Amy, is asked to help her. What a puzzle this writer has drawn together! How her publisist hires a gun to track down and try kill both Kate and Amy. Kate's husband, Angel, in jail in San Diego on murder charges believes that Kate is still alive and wants her found dead in Hawaii. Learn what Amy has planed about Kate. Does she also want Kate dead? Why? You must read this great novel to find the answers to these questions.

This book should have several elements of a bestseller--wife abuse, a runaway victim, murder. And yet it doesn't jell. Again and again it depends on coincidence, which takes you out of the book. Worse, after she flees her husband, faking her death, the heroine is a lame-brained idiot who blabs to almost every person she comes in contact with about what she did and where she has gone. To make it easy to find her for the bad guy minions of her greedy agent and her husband incarcerated for her killing, she left a trail as wide as a freeway saying exactly where she would be. Worse, she wrote a book about what she planned to do and where she planned to go afterward, and sent it to an agent a year before her escape, hoping to get it published. Then, the author tells us, she "forgot" about it. Really? If she'd had a grain of sense, she would have gone somewhere else--but no. The details about the sailing and ocean scenes seem believable, owing probably to the author's bio as a sailor in the afterward of the book. But overall it lacks characterization and texture--those details judiciously dropped in to give the story reality and the characters life. Then at the end, it leaves important details dangling--were there charges against her, etc.? Questions that needed to be answered, but never were. The last chapter skips over all that, as if the author got tired of the whole thing; and just wanted to sum up that everything was peachy now. Sigh...
